Love marriage vs Arranged marriage

Marriage is a very important social institution. Every individual wants to have a perfect match, but the criteria for choosing the partner is different. In love marriages, individuals prefer to choose their partners on their own, while in case of arrange marriages individuals prefers partners chosen by their family or parents. There is a continuous debate regarding the best way to choose the partner for marriage. Let’s analyze which one of the two is better.


In love marriages we need more patience because in this case both the partner knows each other quite well and for a long time. So, if any misunderstanding happens sometime in their life after marriage, both the partners don’t want to compromise generally and start blaming each other for any bad situation. This is because they know each other’s nature, habits very well and if any partner tries to say something then the other partner thinks that he/she is trying to hurt his/her ego. In love marriages, if any misunderstanding happens between the partner they lose their temper, respect, love, everything to each other and quarrelling like kids. This is because both the partners know very well that they married to each other with their mutual decision and they cannot blame anybody else if something goes wrong in their lives.

However, in arrange marriages the situation is different. Both the partners don’t know much about each other. So, it takes long time i.e. 2/3 years for both of them to better understand each other i.e. nature, habits, behaviour etc. In arrange marriages, elders i.e. parents and other relatives, society people etc. all are involved, so if any misunderstanding happens between the partners then before doing anything otherwise they have to think about their parents, elders, society etc. So, the chances of happening wrong in arrange marriages is less.

However, it also depends on both the partners to some extent. If they go with a wise thinking and responsibility and have patience then they can handle every situation.

Both can be successful. Though it mostly depends on person to person however normally most of the couple cannot be able to cope with or adjust with the circumstances and the situation becomes worse from bad. If we generally see the percentage of success, then it is said that arrange marriage are more successful than the love ones.
